 Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan, also known as Chicken Parmigiana, is a classic Italian-American dish that has become a popular comfort food in many parts of the world. The dish is made with breaded chicken cutlets that are topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese, then baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly.



The origins of Chicken Parmesan are somewhat unclear, but it is believed to have been inspired by the traditional Italian dish, Parmigiana di Melanzane, which is made with eggplant instead of chicken. The dish is said to have originated in the southern regions of Italy, where tomatoes and cheese were commonly used in cooking.


As Italian immigrants began to settle in the United States in the early 20th century, they brought their culinary traditions with them, including Parmigiana di Melanzane. Over time, cooks began to adapt the dish to include chicken instead of eggplant, and Chicken Parmesan was born.


Today, Chicken Parmesan is a beloved dish that can be found in restaurants and homes all around the world. Its combination of crispy chicken, tangy tomato sauce, and gooey cheese makes it a favorite among many.


Here is a recipe for Chicken Parmesan:


Ingredients:


  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs with a fork.
  3. In a separate shallow bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Dip each chicken breast in the beaten egg mixture, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing to adhere.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add enough olive oil to coat the bottom.
  6. Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast, then top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
